The graphic above explains the difference between CPAP and Auto CPAP. CPAP requires the appropriate pressure to be set based on a pressure setting, titration sleep study. Once set, the CPAP pressure can ramp up from a low setting, typically over the first 5 to 30 minutes and then will stay constant at the prescribed setting. Auto CPAP is automatic, self adjusting CPAP. Auto CPAP pressure remains at a low setting, but the pressure increases when it senses airflow limitations. This increased pressure stops apneas from occuring. This is especially helpful on nights when the user has an alcholoic beverage, heavy meal or an exhausting day.
